Where have all the Q&A sites gone? Ah, that's right: they're screwed

Forgive the language...but, if you didn't realize who writes most of the blog entries on this, it's Jeremy (one of the three co-founders) while Ericson has written at least a few...90%+ of the time it's me. So, if you're easily offended, skip this one.

Now that's out the way, some fun / interesting & quirky facts.

These idiots:
shouldi.com got coverage in Mashable, where I went "agro" on their write up...why? Because if you CAN'T find out who started a company, that company is going nowhere...take a look at their blog (last updated mid 2008...) or take a look at QuantCast stats (or compete)...where is the traffic? With publication in a blog like Mashable...well, you'd HOPE they are covering real companies that are trying to make a product or build a business, not a piece of bulllshit. In this case, if you dig up my comments on mashable about shouldi, you'll see what I mean...I called BS, and some jackasses got on ME for questioning what the bloggers they were doing. Sorry, that's not how I play the game.

Another example:
Wis.dm is going out of business. Sucks, really. But...raise $5 million...and you'd best be BUSTING YOUR ASS to make things happen. Personally, I never saw that wis.dm should have gotten the Times coverage it did...(I said as much on my personal blog, as well)...however, in all fairness, they never had a chance.

Thing is...a "question & answer site" is about more than giving people a platform. It's about caring for them. Building a business is about more than just trying to make a buck. It's about making the world a better place (seriously). If you raise money & your only goal is "strong ROI" you are simply screwed. Your heart won't be in it. Can anybody who is a real human being value dollars over emotions? I hope not.

So when we (and me, especially) show that we're human, or I go off on somebody for being an idiot...I have my reasons. I don't expect everybody to agree with them - that's perfectly fine. In fact, I'm going to question my own sanity if everybody starts to agree with me. :)

Given the amount of flack that FunAdvice has gotten over the years (both the New York Times AND the Wall Street Journal write ups were pretty slanted against us) or the cr@p some people have posted in blog comments about us...well, all I can say is: we're stronger than ever and any valid criticism we pick up, we'll take in stride, and try to do better.
