Back, and better than ever
So after our random freak outage (ugh) of about 10 days ago, we had some rocky times. Thankfully, our tech team is simply awesome. I mean, really. If you had any idea the amount of flack I give them, you'd probably want to throw something at me.
Not only do they put up with my complaints (thanks, guys, Harish & Ericson) but they also got the box up, running and faster than ever :) Woo-hooo!
To top it off, I had an epiphany. You know, even the sun shines on a dog's you know what somedays, etc. What I realized was simple: we could shave a few hundred miliseconds off of the question page.
Sure, it doesn't sound like much. However, when put into action, our user metrics went up across the board. Wow. In percentage terms, the page is now 13% faster here in California. That's an improvement. Considering it's the largest state in the country, (population, you know, not land mass like Alaska) having better response times is kind of a big deal.
Now, we have a few more things on the list, as that initial set of mods went out & improved things.
...last, I'll mention something realy cool: as a result of all this performance goodness (really a team effort - I just had one idea, after they fixed a bunch of stuff, and then they went out & did the real work), on Monday, Oct 21st, we had a new all time high, followed by an all time high on Sunday.
Can you dig it? I can, and am. Rock on guys, rock on.
