New feature: Chat Room

As you might have noticed this morning we added a little feature: the chat room.

If you're a registered user, your logged in status will be added to the total in the top bar next to the "post crush" link. Click it & see who's available to chat. Click here to try out the funadvice chat feature.

In the last few months, we've seen a lot of people exchanging instant messeges, etc, so thought this would be a fun way to help people keep in touch & get to know each other, without having to worry about giving away their email address (many times, people have come back even a year or two later & asked their IM information be deleted from our site, due to privacy concerns).

Happy chatting.

Networking & learning more about who does what

We try (but fail) to keep up with who's doing what out there, both because we're passionate about the web & also because people are doing some amazing stuff.

First, I'd like to mention menuism.com - if you haven't taken a look at it, check it out. Bootstrapped, well done, and a serious competitor (imho) to the restaurant category / section of larger well funded sites like insiderpages, yelp, etc.

Second, I'd like to take the time to say if you are a blogger, drop Steve a note. It's not often you get a chance to get written up for no more than a comment, and as people know, all press is good press.

Happy Valentine's Day - Introducing the CrushWidget

The four of us (yes, there are four people who work on FunAdvice part time) are excited to bring you a new feature just in time for the day of love: The FunAdvice CrushWidget.

What is the crushwidget you might ask?

Send a crush to anybody you like. Anonymously.

They'll get a brief note, letting them know somebody is crushing on them. They visit the site, and then register to post their own crush. If they are crushing on you in return, they get a link to see your FunAdvice profile. If they enter somebody else, then the cycle keeps going. We've had a 62% success rate so far, and more than 150 crushes sent through the system just today.

After you've entered a crush (or more - we're not telling, so you can enter as many as you like) you can grab the crushwidget itself to post to your personal web page, blog, or myspace profile to show everybody that you have a secret crush. This can increase the chances of you finding that special somebody today, or any day.

As always, let us know what you think, as we really value your feedback.
